Metric drift occurs when the definition or calculation of a KPI changes while its name remains the same. For example, a field called cost_per_lead can continue appearing in a dashboard even though the underlying lead definition or attribution methodology has changed. This can create false performance trends. A proper analytics implementation should therefore version KPI definitions and record the data source, filters, attribution model, and calculation logic behind each metric.
